Starting the Personal Branding Process

As we covered in this module, the goal is to start positioning yourself as the security “guru” in your geographic market area and/or with specific target audiences. And one way to very effectively do that is to get your articles published in media that your target audiences read.

So the first step in this action item is to identify and collect the following:

  • For residential security sales reps:
    • all local B to C (business to consumer) print publications
    • community Facebook groups (join them)
    • any other local online communities
  • For commercial security sales reps:
    • all local B to B (business to business) print publications
    • community Facebook groups (join them)
    • local business Facebook groups (join them)
    • any other business-oriented online communities

Review these sources for the following:

  • any articles written by other sales consultants in other industries
  • any articles written by other security sales consultants
  • any security-related articles
  • the editors or (in the case of online) managers of these sources

Now think about content that you could provide that you think would be of interest to these communities, and start writing it down.
